Description
Exquisite 18th Century Burr Yew Tea Caddy with Star Inlay and Brass Accents, circa 1770. England
This exceptional burr yew tea caddy is a stunning example of Georgian craftsmanship, combining both functional design and exquisite artistry.
Crafted from richly figured burr yew wood, known for its striking grain patterns and warm hues.
The exterior features intricate marquetry work, including a central star inlay on the front, bordered by fine decorative banding. Brass lion-head handles with ring pulls adorn the sides, and the caddy rests elegantly on brass paw feet, adding a touch of regal charm.
The hinged lid opens to reveal two lidded compartments, each crafted with care to store tea. The interior is lined with contrasting flame mahogany, finely inlaid with tulip stringing, highlighting the meticulous attention to detail.
Excellent condition, with a rich patina that enhances its timeless appeal.
This tea caddy not only serves as a practical storage solution but also stands as a beautiful decorative piece, perfect for collectors and enthusiasts of fine antiques.
It should be noted that this is an extremely accomplished and rare example in lovely condition and of very good colour with original patinated surfaces.
