Description
MORRIS, Jessie Marjorie.
A Nursing Sister in Baluchistan.
Stock Code 114868
London, The Zenith Press, [1932].
Current price$320.00
A charming collection of letters written by nursing sister Jessie Marjorie Morris (d.1964) during her posting in the Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan (Balochistan). The images are mostly of the mothers come to give birth and of the hospital, named the Good Shepherd, in Quetta, which is captured in the photos just a few years before the devastating earthquake of 1935.
Jessie Morris was a veteran nurse by the time she had been posted: she had served five years in the army during WWI and been awarded the Royal Red Cross, Second class, in 1917 in recognition of her services as part of Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve.
First edition; 8vo (18.5 x 12.5 cm); 5 plates containing 14 photographs including frontispiece, a little light spotting; publisher's pictorial wrappers, a couple small bumps, a very good copy; 76, [1]pp. -
