Description
A rare and beautiful floor lamp in brass and rattan shade, designed and attributed to Gunnel Nyman and manufactured by Idman. This was often mistaken for a Tynell due to very little documentation, but as the Design Museum recently aquired and published G. Nyman archives, it was established that many of the previously Tynell attributed lamps are in fact by Gunnel Nyman and only produced by Idman. This is one of the lamps that carry the series number 6xxxx that are mostly by Nyman. The lamp is in good condition and has a beautiful vintage patina. The rattan shade was renewed. The lamp model is 60588 and the shade model is 40080. Please refer to catalogue pic.
Gunnel Nyman (1909 – 1948) was a Finnish glass, furniture and metal artist, and one of the founders of modern Finnish glass design. She was also one of the biggest names in the Finnish modern design movement of the early 20th century. Unfortunately, due to her premature death at 39, and even though she managed to design numerous beautiful objects, she also left us with a sense of owe and wonder to what she could've designed with a longer career. -
