Description
A heavy, cast bronze ashtray by Maurice Ascalon in a nautilus shape has a fluted, flat edge that widens as it spirals around the well, which has a hammered texture. The concave portions of the fluting are finished with a verdigris patina that typifies Israeli decorative arts of the mid-century period, a field in which Pal-Bell (under Ascalon’s direction) was a leader.
An embossed stamp on underside reads “Pal-Bell Co. Made in Israel."
