Lisa Johansson-Pape Wall Sconce 50-090, Brass & Lyster Opaline Glass, Orno 1950s
-
Description
A vintage 1950s pair of wall lamps model 50-090 by Finnish designer Lisa Johansson-Pape for Orno. A minimalist par consisting of solid brass arms holding lyster champagne colour opaline glass. The shades are rare and more extravagant than the usual white opaline glass shades found with this model. The size of these lamps is quite larger than the usual wall lamps (please see picture with hand for scale).
This pair of lamps came from a church in Savonlinna were they hung since the late 1950s before removal for renovation. This model was also used in other buildings like the Wasa Theater, as seen in the featured photo in the Orno 1957 catalogue.
The condition is beautiful and as they retain a nice patina and working original wires we left them as is in absolute original condition. Both are stamped Orno.
Lisa Johansson-Pape (1907-1989) was a Finnish designer best known for her works in lightings. She paid more attention to the function of the lamp firstly, then the design feature secondly. Lisa designed furniture for Stockmann for a number of years, after which she turned her attention to lamps, also at the Stockmann owned company Orno Oy. She won a number of medals for her lighting designs in the Milan Triennials in the 1950s. -
