Full of vitality and character, this fine and very large porcelain parrot sculpture was made by the German makers Volkstedt in the early 20th century. Known for their finely painted and skilfully crafted models, sculptures, and miniatures, Volkstedt porcelain have retained a strong reputation to this day among collectors. This piece, depicting a colourful parrot atop a tree stump, is beautifully painted in rich tones of greens, oranges, and reds, the bird's tail in particular is lit with an array of rich colours, and the details on the bird's face attest to the exceptional artistry and skill of the maker's - demonstrating why Volkstedt porcelain works are so highly prized.
