Description
“Swing Set” depicts a child’s swing and the corner of a washing-line against a shadowy fence-line populated with abundant shrubbery in the artist’s backyard. The space depicted is utilitarian, but beautiful. Comically the composition also includes a carpet rolled out over the grass. The strong geometry of triangles and rectangles cuts through the organic marks and shapes used to describe vegetation. There is something deeply mysterious about the light and atmosphere in this part of the world that can make a scene of everyday seem profound.
