Restored Pair George Nelson for Herman Miller Primavera Basic Series Nightstands
-
Description
Rare pair of nightstands or end tables made by Herman Miller in the early 1950s and designed by American design icon George Nelson. Each nightstand features primavera construction, a form of bleached mahogany that takes on the color of golden maple but provides an interesting and smooth grain pattern. Great design adds to the appeal, with an inward beveled edge, even on all four sides. Large drawers add to the functionality, and the cupcake style drawer pulls are unique and add the perfect amount of warmth to the design with their domed look. Well-stanced on black wood bases. Signed with foil labels on the drawers, dating these pieces to 1951-1956.
Cabinets fully refinished. This involves chemical stripping of old finish, followed up by hand-sanding. As for new finish, we keep it simple, with a relatively natural tone to preserve the bleached look, followed by an expertly applied coat of slightly tinted lacquer. The hand-burnished with wax and fine steel wool. The results speak for themselves. Any flaws in the cabinets are now quirks left over from production 70 years ago. Please look at our high-res photos closely for these flaws.
At this time, we also have a pair of 5-drawer cabinets and a pair with a door. From the same estate. -
