Description
A fine marquetry box with inlaid scenes from “The Seven Ravens.” The lid centers a dwarf figure within an oval cartouche, rendered in walnut marquetry against birdseye maple ground. The sides feature ebony-inlaid ravens with brass and mother-of-pearl decorative elements. The primary woods comprise birdseye maple veneer over mahogany case construction. Secondary inlays include grained walnut for figural elements, burl walnut for decorative details, and contrasting brass and mother of pearl for ornamental accents, with working lock and key and brass hinges. Germany, circa 1890
