Classical Marble Sculpture of a Nude Male Torso, early 20th Century.

$ 19,500
  • Description
    One of the most boldly and superbly carved nude male figures in carved marble we have seen outside a museum, this classic depiction of the figure shows the man with one arm up and one down, and one leg thrust in front of the other. The artist has captured the solidity and musculature of the figure, giving him a heroic quality -- as if Hercules were readied for battle against the Hydra. This piece was probably made by an Italian sculptor in the early 20th century, and is carved from a block of pale grey marble. The figure is poised on an iron rod above a block of travertine. (Dimensions include base; sculpture itself is 23 inches high by 10 inches wide.).
