Description
Inspired by a trip to Greece and its turquoise water. Cristina Salusti applies a slip/glaze mixture over a bisque fired piece. The shrinkage and stress between the fired and not yet fired clay causes the cracking. After all the glazing, she rubs oxide into the crevices and wipes it off the glazed areas. Then fires the piece one last time. The bowl is lustered with 22K gold. The rough exterior contrasts with the smoothness of the inside, which attracts and contains ambient light, giving it a spiritual presence.
