French Fruitwood Empire Style Buffet a Deux Corps
-
Description
A substantial 19th century Empire-style French buffet a deux corps, handmade of fruitwood accented with brass hardware, composed of a glass-fronted vitrine above three drawers and a closed cabinet in the lower body. The upper body has two original glass-front bookcase doors (like a bibliotheque), to display and protect one’s collections on the three stationary shelves, 14” deep. Each door retains a working lock, sharing a key between them. Half-round pilasters appearing to hold up the crown are adorned with little brass capitals and bases, complementing the gold tones in the fruitwood. In the base cabinet are three drawers in the frieze: the left and right are defined by ornate brass ring pulls whereas the middle drawer is free of hardware (including the original lock). A wide, spacious cabinet is found behind the two paneled, locking doors, with a stationary shelf, 18” deep, to maximize the storage potential for your kitchen, dining, room, or study. Similar pilasters as above frame the lower cabinet, decorated in repousse brass capitals & bases to underscore the monumentality of the buffet. Cleaned, tightened, and polished with a French paste wax, ready to join your interior. Make sure to view the detailed images to get a closer look at the quality and patina.
