French Mahogany Demilune Marble Top Enfilade
-
Description
Spectacular French enfilade of circa 1850 in a bold combination of materials; the contrasting woods, marble and gilt bronze textures energize this grand buffet of demilune-desserte shape. The case is topped with a blue-gray marble slab shaped to contour the case below and finished with a smooth, ogee edge. Each paneled door and drawer is defined by the high-contrast positioning of blonde maple and dark, flamed mahogany woods, all trimmed with thin heart-ray ormolu, and fitted with brass hardware. A single drawer is found in the frieze with original gilt brass ring pull fittings and decorative escutcheon. Rings to the left and right are purely decorative, keeping the symmetrical rhythm essential to the overall design. In the main storage compartment–falling directly below the drawer–is a wide cabinet offering a fixed shelf, 45” W x 12 ⅝” D. The quarter-round sides each open to reveal two small shelves. Three keys are present. Four turned wood, toupie feet seem to float the piece off the floor. Cleaned, tightened, polished with a French paste wax to restore the lustre – ready to join your interior. Please view the detailed images of all the exceptional features and current condition of this unique enfilade.
