Description
Antique French crystal, vermeil and gemstone cane
French, c. 1890
Height 89cm, diameter 2.5cm
Masterfully crafted in late 19th century France, this exquisite walking stick is adorned with intricately designed four-leaf clovers—timeless emblems of luck and prosperity—making it a cherished token of good fortune.
The handle, fashioned from fine crystal, is elegantly engraved with delicate four-leaf clover motifs, showcasing remarkable craftsmanship. The meticulous etching creates a captivating contrast of textures, enhancing the piece’s aesthetic appeal. At the heart of each leaf, vibrant pink and green gemstones—likely sapphires and peridots—are carefully set, adding a striking touch of colour and refinement.
A vermeil (silver-gilt) collar, adorned with an additional row of gemstone-studded clovers, lends further opulence to the design. Beneath it, a faceted crystal band catches the light beautifully.
Supporting this ornate upper section is an ebonised wooden shaft, uniquely sculpted to resemble a natural branch. It tapers elegantly towards the bottom.
The silver-gilt components bear the maker’s mark ‘JH’ alongside another hallmark.
With its rich symbolism and outstanding craftsmanship, this antique walking stick is both a captivating collector’s piece and a meaningful gift to bestow good luck upon its recipient. -
