Inscribed: "Certificate of Birth and Baptism"
"Miss Johanna Alter, a daughter of Mr. Daniel Alter and his wife (Salome), born a Mattern, was born March the 10th A.D. 1850, in West Beaver Township. Snyder County, State of Pennsylvania and baptized by the Rev. W. Hackman. Sponsors were the Parents."
Henry Christian Andrew Harmon Young was born in Saxony, Germany and immigrated to the United Sates in 1817. He settled in Union County, Pennsylvania, where he worked as a schoolmaster, farmer, organist, and lay minister. Recognized today as a prolific fraktur artist, Young’s varied works often included portraiture and he used both German and English text. An eight pointed red and blue star with a central solid yellow circle was another trademark.
