Italian Oil Painting on Canvas Forest Landscape, Late 19th Century

Description
We present this splendid oil on canvas painting of the Italian school dating back to the end of the 19th century. The painting has two initials on the lower left ST but the artist has not been identified and the painting is lacking authentication.
It is a woodland landscape where in the foreground on the left a lush and ancient oak tree captures the attention. We underline the high pictorial quality clearly visible in the details, in the application of the color and in the use of light that emphasizes the shapes of the trees in the foreground to vanish in the background in the darkness of the forest. An approach to painting that would suggest on the part of the artist a propensity towards the Macchiaioli style.
The painting is accompanied by a beautiful antique wooden frame decorated with silver leaf, which however shows some traces of wear.
