The lack of a catalogue for the Audoux-Minnet company means that only limited information is available about their productions. However, it is known that Adrien Audoux, originally from Franche-Comté, and Frida Minnet, originally from Switzerland, decided to establish their business in Cannes in 1929, probably during their honeymoon.
Frida Minnet's father was also a rattan furniture maker in Montreux, where his shop was located. He was instrumental in helping the young couple establish their business, which specialised in rattan furniture. In 1942, the company relocated to Golfe-Juan, near Vallauris, where Jean Bonaudi also manufactured rattan furniture. The company's clientele included wealthy British and American individuals, drawn to the "French taste", who purchased their furniture. During the 1950s, the company's profile was further raised by the introduction of a new style of furniture, distinguished by an innovative use of natural fibres. The frames, crafted from oak or beech, were fully wrapped in raffia, creating a distinctive and memorable aesthetic. This innovative design, which featured plaited mats in a checkerboard pattern or substantial meshes, garnered significant recognition for Audoux-Minnet.
A distinctive feature of Audoux-Minnet furniture is the oblong plate affixed to the crosspieces, bearing the inscription 'Fabrique de meubles Audoux-Minnet - Golf-Juan', 'Meubles Audoux-Minnet - Golf-Juan', or 'Meubles en ratin Audoux-Minnet - 06'. Audoux-Minnet's unique approach was reflected in their direct sales strategy, which was focused solely on their outlet in Golfe-Juan, a strategy which was subsequently adopted by Bianchi when he assumed leadership of the company in 1965. Bianchi's leadership style remained consistent with Audoux-Minnet's tradition of modernist design, with its focus on functionality and innovation. Following Pierre Bianchi's leadership, the company ceased operations in the 1990s. -
