George IV Period Rosewood Chiffonier or Side Cabinet with Carved Detailing
-
Description
A Fine George IV Period Rosewood Chiffonier or Side Cabinet with Carved Detailing and Ormolu Gallery, of breakfront form, this fine piece is veneered throughout in the highest quality rosewood. It combines fine carved details such as the moulding on the frieze, the floral paterae, reeded ogee feet and the stop fluted columns with the use of gilt brass or ormolu. The doors retain their original gilt brass door panels, of restrained Gothic inspiration, and the pierced gallery to the top which utilises a repeating floral scroll motif.
The piece is attractively proportioned and of good, usable size and is an interesting example of furniture of this period. Its sophisticated decoration and quality carving suggest either a London workshop or one of the finest provincial makers of the period such as Gillows. The rosewood has attained an exceptional colour which contrasts beautifully with the pleated fabric lining the door panels. -
