French 19th Century Portrait by Nils Forsberg in Gilded Frame
-
Description
An arresting circa 1880 oil on panel portrait honoring a lady who is clearly of means and status, as she sits for the artist with a small chihuahua by her feet. Her face–smooth with an unflinching stare–jumps out from the dark emerald background; she is modestly dressed in black with a small red boutonniere on her lapel, the same hue as the crimson chair and tablecloth to her left. One slippered foot rests delicately on a floor cushion in front of her with the small dog occupying its own cushion to her right. Signed and dated by the artist Nils Forsberg to the upper right corner. The panel is set within a gilt frame of similar age and condition. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition of this incredible work of art.
