Table lamp in white glass by Vistosi, Murano, early 1970s
-
Description
The history of Vistosi is one of the longest in the panorama of Murano glassmaking; its origins date back to the mid-16th century. Starting in 1945, a new phase in the company's history began: on the one hand, the concentration on the production of lighting items, with the collaboration with great names in Italian design, such as Gae Aulenti, Angelo Mangiarotti, or Ettore Sottsass, on the other hand, the acquisition of a furnace in Murano, which allowed Gino and Luciano Vistosi control of the entire production chain. The family ceded control of the company in 1989, with the foundation of Vetreria Vistosi, which still exists and produces, but on an industrial and no longer manufacturing scale.
The lamp presented here is part of a group of models made between the end of the 1960s and the middle of the following decade: a series of opaline glass lamps, large in size and with unusual organic shapes. -
