Description
Early 20th century English gold mounted cane by Thomas Brigg & Sons
English, 1919
Height 94cm, diameter 3cm
This exquisitely crafted walking stick, dating to 1919, is the work of Thomas Brigg & Sons, a prestigious English firm celebrated for its superior craftsmanship in canes and umbrellas. Established in 1836 by Thomas Brigg (1805-1881), the company gained international recognition, receiving a Royal Warrant in 1884 as official umbrella makers to Queen Victoria.
The walking stick’s gold-mounted handle enhances the beauty of its light-coloured wooden shaft, which features a polished, glossy finish. The wood’s natural grain patterns add depth and character, elevating the cane’s aesthetic appeal. The shaft tapers gracefully to a metal ferrule, offering both durability and a refined touch.
Adding to its provenance, the top of the handle is stamped with the original owner’s initials, ‘C.C.B.’, while the sides bear the maker’s mark and hallmarks, verifying its authenticity.
A true reflection of traditional English craftsmanship, this elegant walking stick is a superb addition to a collector’s assemblage.
