The Modern Masters Tapestries Gallery is proud to present the tapestry “Les citrons au vase Morave” woven by Atelier 3 Workshop and inspired by the work of the artist Michel Launay.
From 1945 to 1947, Michel Launay was part of Maurice Brianchon’s circle of students at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, alongside artists like Guy Bardone and Bernard Cathelin. Their work was united by a focus on light and color.
Launay’s paintings from this period feature vibrant color contrasts and the use of black for outlining, within a structured composition. Influenced by masters like Pierre Bonnard, Launay aimed to reconcile the emotions inspired by nature with the decorative needs of the canvas. His figurative subjects – including landscapes, still lifes, and daily scenes – are rendered not as mere copies, but as stories told through color. -
