Pair of armchairs by Vittorio Dassi, Italy, 1950s
-
Description
Vittorio Dassi (1923 - 1973) was an Italian furniture designer and manufacturer between the 1950s and the 1970s. Dassi was born in 1923 and followed in 1950 his father in the management of the family-owned furniture company, Dassi Mobili Moderni, which produced high-end furniture and was known for its quality craftsmanship and luxurious materials. Dassi's furniture designs were often characterized by sleek lines, elegant curves, and attention to detail. He favored the use of exotic woods, such as rosewood, ash, teak and often incorporated accents of brass and chrome into his designs as well as inlaid panels and crystals signed by great master glassmakers. Some of his most notable furniture includes sofas, chairs, tables, and cabinets, designed to be both functional and visually striking. Elegant in design without losing functional quality, his furnishings can be compared to the refined style of Gio Ponti, to whom Vittorio was linked by important collaborations after taking over from his father at the Dassi Mobili Moderni company in Lissone. Among the most important projects of the factory is in fact the production of the furniture for the rooms of the Hotel Royal in Naples, designed by Ponti in the mid-1950s, a period that marks the turning point of Dassi towards more schematic forms and teak wood for the production of modular furniture.
