  • Description
The press-moulding technique used for this bas-relief recalls Lega’s experiences as a concrete modeler after World War II, when he made models and stamps for the famous sculptor and ceramicist Angelo Biancini and others to make ends meet. It was Biancini himself who convinced Lega to follow his artistic calling and try ceramics. Lega worked extensively with this technique, particularly for medium and large figurative and abstract reliefs in majolica, before moving on to porcelain stoneware and porcelain. A similar abstract neo-cubist bas-relief of monumental dimension is now kept in the Leandro Lega Museum in Faenza.
