French 19th Century Burl Walnut Louis Philippe Commode
-
Description
This Louis Philippe commode from France, 19th century, has a few surprises: the burled walnut drawer fronts are so striking with dense grain pattern that it’s easy to miss there are hidden drawers in the frieze and at the base. On the surface, the white marble slab forming the top shows wonderful clouds of gray veining under a softly etched patina and rounded edges. With no hardware or handles to grab the frieze drawer, it will easily slide out by gripping the corners. A stack of three drawers open by small metal knobs (more recently added over the previous keyholes) with faint Neoclassical references. Each drawer front is animated by a unique pair of bookmatched walnut veneer in the signature warm color and expressive, radiating waves of burl. Finally, another drawer hidden between the bracket feet offers the perfect hideaway for valuables and mementos entrusted to this handsome commode. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, ready for your interior. Please view the detailed images.
