A stained wood chair by Robert Oerley.
This chair was used in the Urbanikeller in Vienna, which opened in 1906. The Urbanikeller was furnished in 1906 by the architects Humbert Walcher Ritter von Moltheim and Robert Oerley. Moltheim designed the rooms, Robert Oerley designed the interior, together with Fritz Herzmanovsky-Orlando.
Robert Oerley (1876-1945) was an Austrian architect, artist and furniture designer. After being trained as a carpenter, he studied at the School of Applied Arts. From 1907 to 1939 he was a member of the Wiener Secession, of which he was also president in 1912 and 1913. He designed numerous buildings in Vienna, mostly houses. -
