Cicrus Performer with Monkey

Description
This bright and dazzling watercolor by von Eichman is strongly influenced and guided by the principles of Fauvism, an artistic movement that evolved during the beginning of the 20th century in France, led by Henri Matisse and Andre Derain. The name “Les Fauves” translates to “Wild Beasts”, which is an apt description for a group of artists who were drawn together by their collective rejection of the more traditional and conservative academic style. Visual elements found in this interesting artistic movement include the use of extremely vivid colors, bold, barely controlled brushwork, a sense of dynamic energy, and simplified compositions.
“Performer with Circus Monkey” is a strong, richly hued picture that also exhibits elements of the modernist style. This is an eye-catching and vibrant statement by this notable artist whose works are sought after by his many avid collectors. This scene, appropriately set at the circus, nearly bursts with fun and unexpected color combinations in shades of royal purple, fuchsia, and electric blue that explode in every direction. The figures and forms are suggested by quickly applied brushstrokes, and some of them are merely squiggles that have been vigorously splashed onto the paper with the artist's notorious enthusiasm and robust style. -
