Description
Presented is a vintage pair of cast iron bookends depicting the now iconic scene of George Washington crossing the Delaware River. The raised relief-style image on the bookends features George Washington standing in the center of the composition. His men surround him on the boat and one waves an American flag.
As the end of 1776 came to a close, the American army was exhausted, depleted, and demoralized. The British had run revolutionary forces out of both New York and New Jersey. Knowing that the majority of the militia’s period of service was about to expire on the 31st of December, it was imperative that General Washington craft a strategic and offensive next move. The surprise attack was successful, proving to be a major victory and providing the much-needed morale boost for Americans to re-enlist.
CONDITION:
Bookends are in overall good condition. Some slight wear visible on front and back, with slight scuffs and scratches. The bookends are heavyweight and sturdy.
