Description
A bronze figure of a soldier giving the traditional two-figured gesture (a salute that dates back to ancient Greece) indicting a pledge of loyalty. He cradles a broken sword lettered 'Dies illa' & stands on a circular base bearing the artist's signature & the title 'Treuschwur ' (Allegiance) The sculpture was created in 1922 by Paul Juckoff-Skopau (1874-1936) There is a hand engraved inscription added to the top of the base in German that translate to '1st Company Training Pioneer Battalion IV Artillery Regiment 1938'. The front panel of the base is lettered 'Figur vom Kriegerdankmal in Arternn a. Kyffhauser von Juckoff-Skopau.' (Artern War Memorial) The sculpture is 22" tall & in perfect condition some wear to the patina & grime commensurate with age.
