Authentic 1960s Harry Bertoia for Knoll Bird Chair & Ottoman with Original Cover
-
Description
Designed by Harry Bertoia in the 1950s, his vision was to create a chair that was sturdy and practical, but also looked light and airy. He famously said "They are mainly made of air, like sculpture. Space passes right through them." And handling these chairs, you can truly appreciate his sentiment. Made of a mesh of crossed steel rods welded together, this set truly is robust. It follows the classical Knoll tradition of overbuilt to the point of redundancy, with the mesh chair linked to the base by four rubber shock mounts. They dampen vibrations in a way that improves the user experience even more.
In super nice shape. Some light wear to the black finish, but absolutely no broken welds, rods, or repairs. Matching original ottoman in equally good shape. Included is the original cover, which is signed by a Knoll label and tag. This cover should be replaced. The filling has gone bad. -
