Silvio Coppola Mod. 611 Dining Table for Bernini, Italy 1960s
-
Description
Silvio Coppola brought a clear architectural sensibility to his furniture designs. Coppola approached furniture design much like an architect—prioritizing structure, function, and honest materials over decoration. This Mod. 611 dining table, designed in 1964, was conceived during a time when Italian design was moving away from ornament and toward clean, essential forms.
Design
The table measures 220 cm in length and features a solid Italian nut frame with clean, angular lines. At the center, a recessed section can be opened to reveal a concealed compartment designed to hold ceramic serving bowls—an element that merges dining and storage in a seamless gesture. The top panel lifts to reveal this integrated detail, emphasizing Coppola’s functional mindset. The wide, flat legs are connected by a central stretcher, giving the piece both balance and structure. Crafted with attention to simplicity and material honesty, the table reflects the restrained elegance of postwar Italian design.
Originally designed as part of a larger dining system, the table still stands strong on its own. The ceramic bowls are available upon request, further enhancing its original concept.
Condition
The piece is in good vintage condition. It has been partially restored and refinished, with light signs of age visible on the wood while retaining a consistent tone and surface. -
