Spanish Cabinet, Late 19th Century
-
Description
This is a superb example of a late 19th/early 20th century Spanish walnut Cupboard or "Trastero". This form of Cupboard or Kitchen Cabinet was used from the late 17th century up through the 19th and early 20th centuries. This particular piece has retained its original forged iron fittings and is in overall exceptional condition considering its age and intended use. The Cupboard surface shows an old refinish which has acquired its own natural patina. The top section with the open slatted paneled doors was intended to store foods such as bread and cheese. The lower section features field paneled doors with low relief carvings to the panels. Although originally intended as a kitchen cupboard, this cabinet would integrate beautifully into multiple settings.
