Antique Gorham Tray Coin Silver Commemorating Early Indiana Railway

Victorian Classical coin silver tray. Made by Gorham in Providence, ca 1860. Oval with four scroll-mounted strapwork supports. Beaded rim and leaf-mounted end handles with horned and mustachioed heads.
Engraved presentation: Wm. D. Griswold Esq. / His Friends and Employees of the / St L.A. & T.H. R.R. Co / March 31st 1864”. A substantial show of appreciation on behalf of the St Louis, Alton & Terre Haute Railroad to Griswold, who was a prominent Indiana lawyer and investor. Leafing scroll surround. At top and bottom are trains chugging along in opposite directions.
Maker’s stamp. Very good condition with nice patina.
