Description
A carved longquan celadon stem cup from the Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368) in Japanese wood box. The flared stem of the cup is divided into 3 sections by horizontal ribs in imitation of stalk of bamboo. As noted by J. Harrison -Hall in Ming Ceramic in the British Museum, Long, 2001, p.463, "bamboo is assigned Confucion qualities which are much admired ini a man." Provenance Dr. HIROSHI collection.
