Vicke Lindstrand (1904-1983) was much more than just a glass artist; he truly made a name for himself during his decade-long stint as a ceramist at Upsala-Ekeby from around 1941 to 1951. It was there that his talent for sculpting really shone through, bringing to life stunning figures of gazelles, bears, zebras, and a host of other wild animals. He also captured the essence of human movement in pieces like the Potato Picker and the Dancer.
One of his most beloved creations, an elephant with a trumpeting trunk, became a favorite among the public and remains one of the factory's most iconic items, continuing to be produced long after he moved on. In addition to his animal sculptures, Lindstrand was a prolific designer of vases and various objects.
His work is characterized by a soft, organic, and vibrant style that perfectly encapsulates the spirit of Swedish Modern design, which gained prominence during the 1939 New York World's Fair. Over the years, Vicke Lindstrand's ceramics have become highly sought after by collectors, and recently, there’s been a noticeable surge in interest for his series of vases and bowls.
