Pierre Paulin, Pair of Spider Lounge Chairs "Model F678" for Artifort. 1966

$ 27,500
  • Description
    Exceptional and rare pair of lounge chairs model F678, also known as the Spider Lounge Chair designed by the French designer Pierre Paulin and manufactured by Artifort Furniture Company of the Netherlands, 1966.

    The unique hexagonal shape of the Spider chair is made up of a lacquered and jointed wood base with six plywood stringers. Just like the thread of a spider's web, a single nylon rope of 40 yards long is woven onto the structure, supporting an ivory wool cushion. The design creates an extremely comfortable lounge chair within a suspended nest. The bases are in their original vintage condition and the cushions have been recently reupholstered in the ivory 100% wool fabric.
    These pieces are collectible items in mint condition and are ideal for a centerpiece in a living room or a bedroom. The combination of the white lacquered base and ivory wool cushion create a beautiful tone on tone neutral look perfect for any decor and environment.

    Literature :
    "Pierre Paulin, Designer", p. 210/211, Co-edition Archibooks and Grand-Hornu Images, 2008

    The Spider collection by Pierre Paulin is unique in the designer's production.
    Its wooden base and rope structure are unusual in its constructive vocabulary.
    At most we can notice that the rope which forms the support structure of the cushion is a reminder of the discrete cord which connected the textile band of the very first models of "Anneau" armchair.
    The shaped star base table is used at first for specific private orders, from 1962 at the "Maison de la Radio" in France for the large tables with marble tops for the "Foyer des Artistes", or later for the headquarters of the regional bank Crédit Agricole des Alpes-Maritimes for example.

    Original pieces from the 1960s newly re-upholstered in the traditional way by the best French craftsmen, we used a high quality 100% wool fabric from the French house NOBILIS and new foams.
    We can particularly appreciate the work and savoir-faire of our team of upholsterers respecting the original design, using the right proportions and lines as Pierre Paulin designed it.

    This set of easy chairs was at first upholstered of black leather cushions, we can provide photos before and during restoration on demand.

    Additional photos and videos available on demand.

    Worldwide Express deliveries by air freight are available on all our items.
