The concept of systemized furniture really took hold in the fifties. Wegner's RY100 series functioned as much more than a simple room divider: it also included wrltlng desk and a fold-up bed. Like much of the furniture he designed for SALESCO, it developed from a system of shelving he had presented at the Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibitions of 1954, where the task was often to design objects for the typically cramped residences of the period. Adjustable steel feet that enabled the shelving system to stand securely an uneven floor distinguished Wegner's system from others.
