Walter Douglas
American, 1868 - 1948
Painter Walter Douglas was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1868. A pupil of William Merritt Chase, Douglas studied at the Art Students League of New York and National Academy of Design.
Douglas was a member of the American Watercolor Society, Salmagundi Club, Salon of America and Society of Independent Painters. He exhibited extensively at the National Academy of Design, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Art Institute of Chicago, Boston Arts Club, Salmagundi Club, Society of Independent Artists and at the 1904 St. Louis Exposition. Douglas’s works are held in the permanent collections of the Dallas Museum of Fine Art, New Haven Historical Society, Brooklyn Museum and Jersey City Museum.
