Andrew J Willner
American, 1944
A 1967 graduate of the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of City Planning, Willner did graduate work at Virginia Commonwealth University in sculpture and furniture design. In February 1971, Peters Valley Craft Center moved forward with their opening plans and Willner was one of four resident artists who were engaged to demonstrate their craft expertise during the summer, and conduct educational programs during the remainder of the year. For some years thereafter, he operated Andrew Willner Designs, a furniture design and architectural woodworking business.
In 1980 his work was selected for use in Jim Henson’s NYC office. In Henson's third floor office, there was a cherry two-seater by Wendell Castle, and in the entry foyer there was a hand-crafted table by Willner. Of these pieces interior designer Warren Hansen said, "It is this level of refinement and finesse in detailing that is the bond between a range of elements (in the overall design)."
