West Village Townhouse
Photographed by Mark Roskams
New York, NY
A grand five story Greenwich Village town house with the charm and history of old New York was transformed into a warm and cozy family home. Generously proportioned rooms, painted in mild blues and garden greens, soften the modern lines of the furniture collection. The garden motif continues in a hallway featuring hand-embroidered birch tree wallpaper from Fromental. The dining room, with double doors and a Juliet balcony overlooking the backyard, incorporates a floating cabinet by Florence Knoll. Above the Saarinen pedestal dining table hangs a trio of vintage Venini pendants.
To complement the modern floral printed window treatment and leaf green mohair upholstery in the living room, a neoclassical marble mantelpiece has been installed to echo the architecture of the town house. The kitchen and bathrooms are, however, decidedly up to date: the powder bathroom being accented with statuary white marble and wallpaper patterned with songbirds.
