Manhattan Apartment

In an elegant pre-war building in Lenox Hill, a bare apartment was transformed into a sumptuous living space. Collaborating with architect Richard Cameron of Atelier & Co., we infused this modest two-bedroom apartment with robust decorative elements that more closely correspond to the style of the stately architecture of the time. The 12-story building on Lexington Avenue is representative of the early transition to high rise living at the turn of the 20th century, and was designed by Rouse & Goldstone, a popular firm responsible for several “modern apartment houses” in the area. The apartment features high ceilings, two original fireplaces, and large windows. As lovers and students of architectural history, the clients desired the inclusion of classical elements such as pilasters and acanthus leaf plaster moldings. Where possible, the extant millwork and moldings were restored, and new moldings were designed to complement the splendor of the architectural details.
