Woodstock Weekender

The Hudson Valley, and Woodstock in particular, have served for more than a century as a place of refuge for creative city dwellers seeking inspiration in the natural beauty of the Catskills. For a family who began their love affair with the area some 25 years ago, we teamed with architect, Barry Price, to expand and modernize their original home with an eye toward environmental sensitivity and an embrace of the setting’s awesome natural beauty. With Passive House design and biophilia as guiding principles, the design team carefully blended original and new to create a home that artfully balances the color and texture of the local landscape and the clients’ respect for the land and their community. Citing influences such as a neighbor’s dahlia garden or the sky on a starry night, the homeowners repeatedly returned to Mother Nature as the connective tissue for the design mandate, and we delivered with a curated collection of custom rug designs, bold wallpaper murals, sumptuous fabrics, and truly jaw-dropping tile installations that celebrate the magic of nature. To achieve oneness between indoors and out, the palette balances the environment’s strongest hues and subtlest tones to create an atmosphere that is both dazzling and contemplative, like a hike in the surrounding woods.
