Sailor's Woolwork of Royal Navy Ship on a Checkerboard Sea. This British sailor’s woolwork depicts a port side view of a threemasted ship with trapunto white sails on a rough sea depicted as a checkerboard in shades of blue. The ship flies the White Ensign, and the sky still retains the original light blue. The woolie is in a wide medium-dark wood frame and is protected by Museum UV glass.The dimensions of the woolwork are 18¾ inches high x 25¼ inches wide. $7,500

South Arabian Alabaster Ibex. South Arabian, 3rd–1st century B.C. H: 9.3 cm. The ibex is a favorite subject of ancient Yemen art: the faithful portrayed that animal in order to attract the favors of god Ta'lab Riām, venerated especially in the area of Sanaa (the temple of Huqqa, a little north of the city, is dedicated to him); this figure of the South Arabian pantheon was the god of rain and fertility and, at the same time, a protector of the sheep flocks: the ritual ibex hunting, attested by many ancient inscribed funerary steles, is an ancestral practice still surviving today. $8,000
