Newel Antique Gallery
Decorative Arts That Inspire
For four generations, Newel has inspired international collectors, interior designers, and art enthusiasts with one of the most extensive and diverse decorative and fine arts galleries in the world.
Founded in 1939, our roots are firmly planted in New York, where we spent our earliest days furnishing some of Broadway’s most fabled productions. Today, under the leadership of fourth-generation CEO Jake Baer and his father Lewis Baer, we continue that storied tradition as the world’s premier decorative arts resource for distinguished private collectors and industry-leading designers.
An Unmatched, Diverse Collection
We offer a curated range of rare antiques, contemporary art, and vintage finds that span centuries and styles, enabling our clients to discover unique pieces that elevate any interior. Newel’s current collection boasts well over 40,000 extraordinary works from around the globe, with museum-quality pieces dating from the 17th to the 21st centuries.
Our inventory is celebrated for its incredible diversity, bridging the gap between historical craftsmanship and modern creativity. Highlights from our collection include:
Exceptional Antiques: A vast array of one-of-a-kind treasures spanning Renaissance, Victorian, Biedermeier, Art Deco, and Mid-Century Modern styles.
Newel Contemporary Artists: Blending cutting-edge creativity with enduring design, we proudly introduce Newel Contemporary. We represent and showcase exceptional contemporary artists such as, Tristan Govignon, Barbara Kiskovski, Eva Petric, and Shelley Harrison, proving that style and history can beautifully coexist with modern art.
Our Showroom
To house our ever-expanding, world-class collection, Newel operates out of a massive 150,000-square-foot showroom and warehouse in Long Island City. This expansive space serves as an unparalleled design hub, offering an inspiring, hands-on experience for clients to explore our trove of timeless antiques, mid-century gems, and contemporary designs.
Our Commitment to You
The Newel team is committed to continually growing and strengthening our relationships with our clients. Every piece in our collection is carefully vetted for authenticity, craftsmanship, and enduring value—celebrating antiques as sustainable luxury that is built to last and preserve history.
Our knowledgeable staff is always available to answer any questions you may have, offer custom consultations, and provide expert assistance in picking the perfect piece for your home or project. We look forward to helping you find something truly special!

Newel is a family company. The company, which was founded by Jake’s great-grandfather Meyer Newman in 1939, began as a prop house, filling out the sets of Broadway productions. Rentals remained the primary offering of the company for some 30 years, before the second part of the business—the antiques and decorative-arts gallery—came into fruition in the 1970s as collectors began approaching Newman about selling some of his rarer or more valuable artifacts. When Jake Baer stepped into his role as CEO in 2016, he became the fourth in his family line to run the company. Jake, like his predecessors, grew up around the company and worked in a variety of supporting roles—doing stints in the shipping, carpentry, accounting, and sales departments—before taking the reins. For him, those early experiences growing up in the thick of the business still inform his vision today. -artnet 2017
A Minnesota native who migrated to New York 10 years ago, Kiel Wuellner’s passion for interior design and architecture was ingrained in him since birth. Descending from a long line of interior decorators and antiques dealers, Kiel began his work in the shelter industry at just age 16, working after school with a custom home builder as a realtors assistant and finish material specifier. From there, he transitioned to the real estate business, making his first sale of a multi-million dollar custom property at age 18.
Studying historic preservation and community studies in college, Kiel committed fully to interior design after the passing of his mother, an aspiring interior decorator herself and Kiel’s greatest inspiration. His well-established love of fine art, balance in decor, and historic spaces allowed for a seamless transition into the world of design, and he was soon managing showrooms, overseeing product and brand development, managing sales and marketing teams and serving as Design Director for David Scott Interiors and other high profile brands.
